While in France over J-term 2010 I had the opportunity to experience the world famous Louvre. Filled with thousands upon thousands of pieces of work spanning over who knows just how many years, the Louvre would take a visiter a lifetime to see all of the work. Among the work that i saw in my three hour tour, was the coveted Mona Lisa painting. While this painting is considered by many to be one of the most incredible paintings ever i was slightly unimpressed. the painting sits behind a thick glass wall, has not one, but two guard rails that set you back probably ten feet from the painting and several guards surrounding it. While i think this may be a necessary safeguard, it certainly takes away from the organic viewing of the painting. people just crowd around taking junky pictures, flashes going off left and right and you can barely study it from so far back. it is really a shame. In all honesty, the wall to wall painting opposite the Mona Lisa is even more awesome.
